Vive la France

We are at that stage in the year when everyone has taken their holidays and have hopefully had a wonderful relaxing time – just like me.  Our holiday this year was taken in the beautiful Champagne region of France.  We love the French countryside along with the food and wine.  Even England’s world cup exit didn’t put a dampener on our break and of course with France winning, you can imagine the amazing celebrations that we saw!

I really look forward to my summer break every year and having a holiday booked is a big motivator for me to always put my all into my work.  A holiday is my reward for doing a job well and I know that a lot of my friends also feel the same way.

Back to work

This time of year is so important for many businesses, with annual performances being reviewed and budgets being prepared for the following year.  The final ‘push’ to ensure; everything is delivered before year-end, all objectives and KPIs are met and that the team are working together as a highly-achieving unit, is vitally important. 

My question is: do you know what motivates your employees and how are you helping your team to get over their post-holiday blues to give 100% at work from their first day back?

Everyone knows that highly motivated employees deliver to the best of their ability, so it makes good sense to focus on these motivators and support our employees to deliver their best.

Temperature check

I am working on a ‘temperature check’ with a couple of clients at the moment with the aim of measuring; engagement, motivation and check the employee’s focus on achieving results.

Of course, it is important to remember that if you are going to collect this valuable data, that you must review the data and recognise the information that you have collected.  Otherwise this is a pointless exercise.

Organise and event

Along with taking a temperate check, I also advise leaders to focus on bringing the team back together, organise an event that will re-focus the team on their objectives whilst also helping them to re-connect.  This doesn’t need to be an expensive off-site event.  My advice is to not just focus on business and try to bring an element of fun to the event.
